Book Cover Design
— Multiple Titles

A series of genre-spanning book cover designs — each crafted to stop a reader mid-scroll and communicate the essence of a story before a single word is read.

The Challenge

The Problem

Three independent authors — each working in a different genre (adventure, self-help, and literary fiction) — needed book covers that could compete on crowded digital shelves. Generic, template-based designs were failing to communicate the unique character of each title, leading to low click-through rates and missed sales opportunities.

The brief required each cover to feel like it belonged to its genre while also carrying a distinct visual identity — something a reader would remember and return to.

  • Generic stock-photo covers failing to differentiate from thousands of similar titles
  • Typography choices that were inconsistent with each book's tone and audience
  • No cohesion between cover mood and the emotional promise of the story
  • Low perceived value deterring readers from purchasing at full price
  • Covers not optimised for both print dimensions and digital thumbnail sizes
Our Approach

The Solution

Smartal Solutions treated each title as a standalone brand problem. Genre research, competitor cover analysis, and author interviews informed three entirely separate visual directions — ensuring no two covers shared the same aesthetic DNA while all three demonstrated the same level of craft.

Each design was delivered print-ready at full bleed with spine and back cover specs, alongside digital-optimised versions for Amazon KDP, social media, and author websites.

  • Genre-led research: adventure, self-discovery, and personal development visual conventions analysed and subverted intentionally
  • Custom typographic systems: display face, weight, and sizing chosen to match each book's emotional register
  • Atmospheric image treatment and colour grading unique to each title
  • Hierarchy engineered for maximum legibility at thumbnail size (160×250px) and full print scale
  • Author name and subtitle placement tested across multiple compositions before finalising
  • Full-bleed print files and digital variants delivered in all required formats
